The Canadian-Made "VegMax2" (VM2) is the most compact, feature-packed, best-heating filter ever for vegoil (plant oil, SVO, WVO) and biodiesel filtering, even in the coldest of winter temperatures! The filter element, top-mounted, sits above the integrated, heated water separator/sedimenter/primary filter chamber in the base, and above the flow of hot engine coolant, and the spin-on filter element is then insulated by the reusable neoprene insulating cover. ("filter cozy", filter toque")
The VM2 is the smallest, lightest filter of it's type, and will fit in locations other filters do not. It is common to get at least 5,000 km per filter element, often 10,000, even 20,000 km per element has been recorded (using our 1 micron Pump N' Filter system to filter the oil before it goes into the tank). The VM2 allows filter changes easily, being a top-mounted filter element design (and no, you don't try to "fill the filter" before you spin on a new element!)

Comes COMPLETE with filter element (your choice of Donaldson or RF900D) large drain valve, convenient ORB fittings and heat-trapping, oil resistant, custom fitted black neoprene "FilterCozy" insulating cover for filter element.
SPECIFICATIONS:
Weight, fully assembled, approx. 5 pounds.
Minimum clearance height needed above filter to remove and change filter element: 1.25"
Top-mount filter element for ease of mounting and easy filter changes in tight engine bays. Just warm up the filter by running a few minutes on diesel (assuming you have a 2-tank system) for faster draining, open the filter element a little, to let air in, then open the bottom drain. Drain out the element and the sedimenter base. Close drain valve. Remove old element. Top up the base of the VM2 with clean oil or diesel. Install new element. Primes easily! (Toggle 10 seconds at a time, then 20, then 30, between diesel and veg while you drive, takes about 5 minutes to "burp the baby". The filter element does not need to be filled with oil, it will prime as oil enters the bottom of the element, and then exits again.
The VM2 is designed to be as universally applicable as possible. We have mounted it on all the common diesels, always have been able to mount filter element up. Some people want to know why on earth the Donaldson water separator type element that is supplied is used. It's obviously "upside down". There are 2 reasons - that large plastic "drain port" is removeable and it makes it really easy to prime the new element with new oil for even faster purge of air after an element change. Also, even though and water molecules that might get stopped by the water block type filter media cannot go into the usual place ("bottom" of element) they can be held in suspension on the surface of the filter media, until such time as the engine is switched to diesel, and at that point can drop to the bottom chamber of the VM2. So, as with any water separator, it is a good idea to periodically drain a little fuel off.
The VM2 has an integrated, heated water separator and sedimenter - it is the chamber at the bottom. A heated sedimenter and water separator chamber works better than an unheated one. The oil enters this chamber first, and is then drawn up and through the filter element, when the filter element is top-mounted. Larger particles and free water have a chance to drop out and can be drained off.
Other elements can be used. If you wish a short, 5 micron, water absorbing element, ask us to send your VM2 with the RF900 element. Spares are available for these elements from our web site.
If you only need 10 micron nominal filtration for your system (e.g. older Mercedes, VW's prior to TDI, etc. - most diesels up to the mid 1990's, then you can use a Wix 33109 or NAPA 3109, or the taller and shorter versions of this element, (taller = Wix 33115, shorter = Wix 33107. Many other brands cross reference to the Wix, so you can obtain spare filter elements for these, or the Donaldson, at most auto parts stores.
Coolant heated base.
Two spare coolant ports. Any two coolant connection ports can be used for the coolant in/out connections. The other two are plugged (plugs supplied).
NEW FEATURE: There is a 1/8" NPT fitting marked "P" on the "Fuel Out" side, which can be used as a port for a fuel pressure gauge in "pressure-side" applications. There is as a similar "V" Port, this is for vacuum side applications, and allows installation of a vacuum gauge or sensor. There is also a "T" port, for a coolant temperture gauge.
Water separator / prefilter in base*. Large, convenient bottom drain.
The ORB fittings are very convenient and allow you to angle the fitting to the exact angle you need, then tighten the jamb nut against the O-ring, creating the seal. No thread sealant needed (drain valve threads should still be sealed with thread sealant). No more having to make that critical decision of whether to try and crank an NPT thread elbow fitting "one more turn" or not, to get it facing the angle you need, or whether to leave it a bit looser, and rely on the thread sealant! Now you can get just the angle you need, no tough decision, no leaks, no partly crimped hoses!
Note for overseas customers: we will only ship cases of 12 elements overseas. The 3-pack is not available outside of Canada. This is due to the prohibitive cost of shipping only 3 elements. The best idea is to order a case of elements when you order the filter itself, then you will have a good supply on hand for a long time!
MOUNT VALVES ON THE FILTER BASE IF DESIRED! Our 12V 3-port valves can be mounted on this filter using the optional spacer plates. Extra threaded mounting holes are provided.
CONVENIENT, VERSATILE MOUNTING: The VegMax2 can be mounted in a few different ways, for convenience and versatility. Two pairs of mounting holes are provided, one pair on each of the two sides of the unit that does not have any fuel or coolant connections. This means the filter is not "handed" (you do not have to worry about ordering a "left hand" or "right hand" filter, as you do with some filters).
The unit can be bolted to firewall, mounted on a bracket, and can even be mounted directly onto surface of a floor or fender by making a hole with a holesaw just large enough for the drain valve, then thread in the drain valve from underneath and tighten, this holds the unit in place (we usually use a part of a tube of SB190 adhesive, as well, to fill the gap. SB-190 can be obtained from us, just ask or order from www.nbt.ca It is amazing stuff - very strong, but if you ever do need to remove the VM2, you will be able to). We have mounted many VM2's this way, it's a great method on the Mercedes 300d for example up to 1985. It has also been used on a 2006 Golf, 2003 Jetta, etc. A
*Water separators and water block type filter elements are not considered to offer full protection against all forms of water in fuel, which can damage injection pumps and injectors. They do offer secondary protection in the event of the inadvertent presence of free water in fuel. For best assurance of long term success, test the oil using a "Hot Pan Test", etc. See the article "Used Cooking Oil the Easy Way" on our home page.
